Special CECA molecular sieve designs for FLNG presented at GPA Europe in London.
Peter Meyer, Business Manager dynamic applications of the Molecular Sieve Business Unit of CECA SA will present a paper about molecular sieve designs on floating LNG units
(Floating Liquefied Natural Gas production) at the Gas Processors Association (GPA) Europe on 19th February in London.
Floating LNG units are particularly interesting for smaller and mid size Natural Gas fields, which are very often in remote areas.
With a capacity around 1-1.5 MMtpy LNG, they present a lower CAPEX due to huge savings for the infrastructure. Their lower environmental impact compared to
onshore structures is an important factor, too. About 150 FLNGs are about to be built till 2015.
The challenge for molecular sieves designs is not only to dry the Natural Gas before liquefaction but to remove CO2 also.
Due to the movements of the ship the Amine unit may face upsets due to mal distribution of the liquid resulting in CO2 breakthrough.
The molecular sieve unit is not subject to perturbation caused by ship movements.
For low CO2 concentrations the molecular sieve unit could even manage drying and entire CO2 removal economizing thus the Amine unit.
Another very important point, as explains Peter Meyer, is to propose high density molecular sieves, for small vessel design,
an optimized footprint, CAPEX and OPEX savings.
CECA is N°2 supplier of molecular sieves worldwide. Its recent developments has increased its presence in the high-end application such as Natural Gas Sweetening or
o- and p-Xylène separation. Customers appreciate CECA particularly thanks to the technical services provided with its adsorbents.
CECA, a subsidiary of the ARKEMA Group, is a worldwide player in Specialty Chemicals. CECA constantly strives to improve its customers’ performance by
creating and developing adsorbents, chemical intermediates, and additives. CECA operates an extensive network of industrial facilities in Europe,
together with two research centres (GRL and CRRA) dedicated to Customer innovation.
