CECA successfully finalises its first REACH Registration phase

30th November 2010 marked the completion of the first phase in the REACH registration process. As part of this initial phase, CECA’s personnel registered 25 substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

This initial phase entailed the registration of substances produced or imported in annual quantities of 1,000 tons or more as well as those designated as substances of “very high concern”(*). For CECA, these 25 registered substances account for almost one third of its substances covered by the REACH regulation.

« CECA’s personnel have achieved some remarkable work in order to complete phase 1 registration on time. I am confident that we will complete the second phase just as successfully, » reports Christophe Villain – CECA Managing Director.

This second phase concerns substances produced or imported in annual quantities of less than 1,000 tons. Registration dossiers for these substances must be compiled by 1st June 2013. CECA’s teams are continuing their work to achieve this objective.

More about REACH: The aim of the Reach (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) project is to set up, over a period of eleven years, a system for the registration of the 30,000 chemical substances or so manufactured or imported into the European Union in quantities of one tonne or more per year. A registration dossier must be prepared for each of these substances based on the OSOR (One Substance, One Registration) principle, and filed with the European Chemicals Agency, which will be tasked with checking and evaluating the dossiers with the help of Member States, and then with granting the authorisations.
