CECA, Europe’s leader in bitumen additives, will present its CECABASE® RT additives for warm asphalt mix at the International Road Federation (IRF) World Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal,
from 25 to 28 May.
CECA will present the innovative technology of its CECABASE® RT warm asphalt mix additives at the IRF world meeting being held from 25 to 28 May 2010 from 9.00h to 18.00h
at the Lisbon Congress Centre.
In recent years CECA has developed a surfactant additive comprising at least 50% renewable raw materials which, blended with the bitumen, helps lower by some 40°C the application temperature of the road surfacing material without impairing its performance. Compared with the traditional road surfacing process, this additive cuts down energy consumption by up to 25% depending on the process, while also generating considerably less dust.
With the impact of road construction work on man and the environment becoming a growing issue, the CECABASE® RT product range provides an opportunity for a more energy-efficient and environmentally sounder process.
A conventional road asphalt mix comprises 95% aggregate and 5% oil-based bitumen. The mix has to be heated to 160-180°C to produce the necessary fluidity to be laid on the carriageway.
By incorporating the additive developed by CECA into the asphalt (between 2 and 4 kg per tonne of bitumen), the required production temperature can be lowered to around 120°C, while allowing the mix to retain the same properties as the traditional blend.
While developing its CECABASE® RT range of additives, CECA has been mindful of the need to safeguard the productivity aspect of road construction: these additives do not challenge the traditional hot mix asphalt technology. They are particularly easy to use by simple addition into the bitumen.
Our technology has already been recognised by several international awards:
- The ICIS Innovation Awards 2009 for best product innovation and best overall innovation.
- The prize awarded in August 2008 by the IRF (International Road Federation) in the Technological Innovation category.
- The Pierre Potier Prize for chemistry at the service of the environment presented in 2007 by Mr Yves CHAUVIN, Nobel Chemistry Prize.
