Antistatic additives.

Static electricity can build up on the surface of non-conductive materials, e.g. plastics, causing dust to adhere, risks of electric discharge, and problems during processing due to the repulsion of charged surfaces.

To prevent the build-up of electrostatic charges, there is a solution: CECA’s antistatic additives!

CECA’s NOROPLAST® range includes ethoxylated amines for Polyolefins (PP, BOPP, PE) and ABS, as well as ethoxylated fatty alcohols and quaternary ammonium salts for PVC and PU. These are internal additives which all feature one or more fatty chains as well as a polar head, the nature of which is adapted to the matrix.

The additive in fact needs to be sufficiently compatible with the polymer to be incorporated in it, but still incompatible to some degree to ensure a slow release on the surface.

The polar head traps the water molecules, forming a thin film which helps dissipate the electric charges, hence the additive’s antistatic effect. Our application laboratory is equipped to evaluate this performance.

NOROPLAST® additives can be added either directly, or in the case of Polyolefins via antistatic masterbatches... Our customers include the major names in additive masterbatch manufacture!

Should your applications involve contact with food, we also market suitable additives (FDA, Europe) for this purpose.
