Grinding, wetting and dispersion of pigments and fillers :

Grinding operations, albeit necessary, are lengthy and costly. By being adsorbed onto the surface of the particles, CECA additives help reduce grinding time and the wear and tear of grinding machines. The lubricating effect afforded by the fatty chains around the particles facilitates the grinding operation.

In order to improve dispersion, the wetting of the powder by the fluid carrier, be it water or a solvent, has to be as effective as possible. Therefore surface tension beween liquid and powder has to be reduced.
