Antifouling paints protect the hull of boats from the build-up of marine organisms which can lead to overconsumption of energy and loss of speed for the boat of over 20%. For optimum performance, the successive layers of antifouling paint should be thoroughly stripped approximately every 5 to 6 years before new paint is reapplied.
Strimix® has been specially formulated to remove antifouling paint quickly and effectively, while protecting the gelcoat primer layer which makes the polyester hull watertight.
Strimix® has a creamy consistency and is barely volatile, and so is easy to apply with a brush, a roller or a spraygun. With its fast action, it can eliminate a dozen or so layers of antifouling paint in a few hours, without attacking the gelcoat. Boats are laid up for a minimum amount of time, therefore. As an example, a 100ft yacht will require laying up for one a half day maximum if Strimix® 841 is used, against an entire week in the case of a mechanical treatment.
Each Strimix® constituent plays a specific role in the stripping process. The product’s composition involves innovative thickener systems and a high concentration of mineral fillers. This formulation produces dry residues which are easy to scrape off with a spatula and collect into bags, unlike the sludge resulting from traditional thickeners used on antifouling paints.
