FEBEX, a CECA subsidiary, is pleased to report that its REACH registration dossier for Sodium Hypophosphite has been accepted by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
Acceptance of the dossier in July 2010 marked the culmination of the work undertaken by FEBEX, CECA and all the members of the Consortium headed by FEBEX.
Compliance with the REACH regulation means that FEBEX can already freely export sodium hypophosphite throughout the European Union, while boosting FEBEX’s commercial ambition for this product. The studies undertaken as part of REACH have led to sodium hypophosphite being classified as a "non-hazardous substance" in terms of both man and environment. Every type of use for sodium hypophosphite currently surveyed, from the production chain to end-users, was therefore taken into account for the registration process. This classification is the best that could have been hoped for in terms of this regulation, as it exempts FEBEX from the requirement to evaluate risks related to the various uses of this substance. It is also a promising development for the increasingly common use of sodium hypophosphite beyond traditional chemical nickel-plating applications. FEBEX is the only sodium hypophosphite manufacturer with production sites on two continents (Asia - China, and Europe - Switzerland). It markets its high purity sodium hypophosphite under the trade name SOFIBEX® .
