As part of a United States federal project addressing properties and performances of Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) technologies, about 1,000 tons of asphalt mix using CECABASE® RT additive were produced and laid down last fall, under supervision of the New York City Department of Transportation. The warm asphalt mix containing 20% Recycled Asphalt Pavement was successfully produced at 230°F (110°C) thanks to CECA patented additive, representing a decrease of 80°F (45°C) compared to the control hot mix. Reduced emissions were measured both at the Flushing plant and at jobsite. This trial will allow the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to evaluate several WMA technologies to determine how to implement them on a larger scale. "This is another step in the development of CECABASE® RT", says Eric Jorda, Sales Manager for CECA Asphalt Additives in North America. "Our solution is simple : the addition of a liquid product into asphalt without plant modification. According to a recent NAPA (National Asphalt pavement Association) survey, more than 10% of all United States asphalt mixes were produced at reduced temperatures last year; this is 3 times more than in 2009. We are really excited to see that the users of CECABASE® RT can easily participate in this growing market."
