Solutions for Starch Derivatives Industry

Worldwide.

The applications are countless, the processes many, and the impurities to be eliminated wide-ranging; accordingly, CECA’s Technical Support team strive to develop tailor-made solutions perfectly suited to the needs of each customer in terms of cost-effectiveness.

We offer you our combined filtration and purification expertise to help you eliminate suspended solids and soluble impurities from your raw liquids.

Acticarbone Activated Carbon and Clarcel Filter Aid in the Starch Derivatives Industry

This is a complex industry based on Starch, present in cereals.

Using acid and/or enzyme hydrolysis of varying intensity, starch is processed into glucose, maltose or maltodextrin syrup. These syrups can in turn, following hydrogenation, fermentation or isomerisation, produce molecules such as fructose, sorbitol or gluconic acid.

The use of vegetable raw materials as well as some secondary chemical reactions, e.g. the Maillard reaction, generate impurities which need eliminating.
The most common impurities include colour, colour precursors like Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and odorant molecules like 2-Aminoacetophenone (2AAP).

Based on the problem to be solved, our specialists will guide you to the most cost-effective activated carbon grade for your needs. Our dedicated team of engineers and technicians, based at our Lacq Research Centre, conduct optimisation tests directly on our customers’ syrups.

We have developed a new Acticarbone grade specially for this industry. This highly activated carbon with controlled pH is specially versatile. Particularly effective in the finishing treatments at the end of the process, it deodorises, eliminates residual colour and colour precursors, and thereby helps fulfil the needs of the most demanding end-customers.

The outstanding filtering properties of this new Acticarbone combined with the use of our Clarcel filter aid ensure optimum filtration: longer filtration cycle, lower consumption, and less waste.

This Acticarbone-Clarcel combination helps significantly reduce processing costs: -consumption savings of over 30% have been recorded with several customers.
