What is Activated Carbons ?
CECA has been producing activated carbons (Acticarbone® and Anticromos®) since 1928.
Activated carbon is an inert carbon structure, , with the inner surface consisting of billions of channel-like microscopic pores accessible to molecules of varying nature and size. This creates a remarkable power of adsorption, an indispensable process in industrial separation, purification, decolourisation and recovery techniques. Under the microscope, an activated carbon particle looks like a natural sponge perforated with countless small and very dense interconnecting channels. The pore diameter ranges from 4 to 100,000 angstroms. This highly dense porosity results in a considerable porous volume ranging from 0.7 to 1.3 cubic centimetres per gram of carbon, and a very high surface area to which molecules are bonded.. In fact, the amount of activated carbon a person can hold in his hand can have a surface area of several football fields.
